Tomorrow, Thursday December 6th 2012, marks the first day of trial for Juan Cruz…

for the murder of Rosie Marie Woolwine, stemming back to June 18th, 1989. It’s been a long time coming but we have to believe that this is the way it was supposed to happen. If he were sentenced back in 1989, he would be free by now; a very scary thought.

PLEASE SUPPORT US by Liking this blog on Facebook, Twitter, or any other social media outlet you use.

You may also show up to the court house, Frank Murphy Hall of Justice, downtown Detroit. Please be there by 9:00 am. Court will go on until 1:00 pm every day until enough witnesses are called, and as long as the jury will need to make their decision.  The court room may be full, so please be prepared to wait in the hallway if necessary (those of us who may have to testify may only be able to stand in the hallway also). Please wear purple for Rosie if you can or cannot make it to court

(NO references to the victim are allowed within the court room so please DO NOT WEAR ROSIE T-SHIRTS INSIDE THE COURTROOM!!).

Post about this on your feeds, and feel free to speak publicly about this tragedy. The worst thing that could happen is this case be swept under the rug, when so many have so much to learn from all of this. This is a great time to have conversations with your families about Domestic Violence and the dangers of co-dependencies. Spread love and teachings of compassion. Keep Rosie alive.

Thank you endlessly for your support and sticking by our sides throughout all of this. We hope to discover a new era in our lives, where the memory of Rosie, my beautiful mother, will not be over shadowed by the actions of an evil and callous man. He will no longer dictate our emotions. I know nothing will ever fully bring closure, but this will be one sweet victory to the City of Detroit and a life-changing event for those of us who were touched by the amazing spirit of Rosie. We may never know why, and I truly do not care why he did this, but I savor the day I will witness Juan Cruz’s facial expression as he is sentenced to rot in a cell in contemplation of the final moments of my mother’s life…until his last breath.

TRIAL MOVED TO DECEMBER 6th 2012

Once again, the trial date has been pushed farther back, this time Judge Timothy Kenny, at Frank Murphy Hall of Justice, has chosen December 6th.

We will pursue having cameras film the trial, since we are told that there is not enough interest from the public to continue filming for major broadcast. In addition to this, local media has diminished their interest in this case.

It is up to us to keep the fight alive and prominent. We ask you for your support for the upcoming trial. Tell a friend, tell our family…pass the word about this case and trial. If you feel compelled to help, you can show up to the trial (6th floor of Frank Murphy Hall of Justice), keeping in mind that if family fills up the room, you must support outside of the courtroom; or you may simply LIKE us through your facebook or twitter accounts, or even wear purple in honor of Rosie.

We thank you all so much for keeping up to date with the case, sharing your words of support, your stories of Rosie and your compassion for all of the surviving family/children of Rosie.

ANNOUNCING: New Trial Date – November 5, 2012

The Rosie Woolwine 23 year old murder trial will be held starting November 5th, 2012 first thing in the morning at Frank Murphy Hall of Justice in Detroit, MI.

Judge Timothy Kenny will preside over the hearings and testimonies. They say it will last a week or so, depending on how many witnesses are called.

As many Detroiters already know, our murder rate is at an all time high in 2012 so far. Many are taking to the streets to re-claim our culture-rich neighborhoods from the prevalent gang infested blocks that take innocent lives away with violence.

We had an absolutely inspiring and amazing time on Sunday September 9th 2012, walking down Vernor St. in Southwest Detroit, a traditionally parade route.

We turned heads with our chants of peace and protests of resolution to the community. There were tons of supporters and in Clark Park at the end, we had an uplifting and warm experience as we grieved and celebrated the lives of our fallen loved ones.

 

Rosie was one of many community members who have been slain to violence and as a single voice, we decided that enough is enough. We’re taking back our streets.

 

BUT, the important thing to remember is to put your words to work. Actions will support the movement, not postings or LIKES or photos posted on walls. So take with you today our message of peace and unity. Respect one another and always speak up for the less fortunate. In times of need, would you want someone to help you? Or continue walking on by as if you are none of their business.

 

Think about it. And join Southwest Detroit Pride in their efforts!

As we prepare for my mother’s murder trial, the Justice 4 Rosie campaign increases to overdrive. Help us spread the word to ensure that Juan Cruz does not once again fall through the cracks of our judicial system.

September 24th is the big day. Prayers and thoughts are requested by the family. It is with faith, and amazing support that we are able to make it through this somehow. And we thank all of our supporters for every step you all have made to contribute to our fight.

It’s a marathon, not a sprint

Juan Cruz stares his victim’s close family members in the eyes during the hearing on August 1st in Detroit, MI. No more motions to file, and the trial date is approaching. No one expected what has come to pass and what will inevitably be sweet victory for peace and justice.  And for Rosie. I have faith. But more importantly, I have time. After 23 years of an opened wound tragedy, I can patiently await the wheels of justice to turn…ever so slow.

 

1 more court hearing until the trial starts…now is the time to stay STRONG =)

Theresa’s reactions to recent news of Juan Cruz extradition 5/10/2012:

Juan Cruz EXTRADITED back to Detroit…FINALLY!!!

The family found out on May 10th, 2012 that Juan Cruz had been brought to Detroit, MI to face his charges of 2nd degree murder & possession of a weapon. His arraignment was held on the following day of May 11th, 2012.

He was denied bond and cited to be a flight risk and his violent nature of offense was also cited.

His next hearing will be held on May 22nd, 2012. This will be a slow and steady process but we are holding strong and firm. We will be in attendance at EVERY single court date with our purple Rosie tribute T-shirts, making sure that the focus is on ROSIE (the victim) at all times. She WILL be heard.
